Senator Obama: Socialist

Senator Obama responded to the claims that he's a socialist.

Yeah, it's an opportunity. Did anyone else notice that Senator Obama seemed surprised that they would call him a socialist?

Senator, perhaps I can help you here. Socialism is one of those things we can define. From the Wikipedia site.

Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.

This Senator, is how we can call you a socialist. When you're going to give a tax rebate, to people who don't pay taxes, that's socialism. When you're going to tax the rich at a huge rate, to "spread the wealth around" that's Socialist economic policy.

When Government is going to control things, that's socialism. When Government is going to create huge new departments to oversee things like, national health care, that's socialism.

When the Government is going to limit dissent via the fairness doctrine, that's socialism.

When you vote to ban firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens, that's socialist.

Yes Senator, you're policies are Socialist, and it wasn't the media who properly labeled them that way. It was a plumber from Ohio, and the VP candidate from Alaska.

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating social or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society where labor is the main source of wealth. Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.

McCain's a socialist too. He was in favor of the bailout and the investment of US government money, taxpayer money, in large commercial banks.

Government ownership of banks is Socialism!

The only real conservative in the race, is Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party's candidate for president.

Please vote for Bob Barr. He is a man of principle, unlike the other candidates, and he opposes the bailout and the investment of US government money in banks.

And Bob Barr opposes Fannie and Freddie much more than McCain. Bob Barr wants to shut down Fannie and Freddie.

It's time to vote for a true conservative. Send a message! We are fed up and will not tolerate such candidates as Obama or McCain.

Please vote for Bob Barr. He has the support of Rep. Ron Paul, and he is a committed, principled, strong conservative. He will get us out of this mess, while restoring capitalism.

I would consider voting for Bob Barr, but there is a number of problems with that option.

First, Bob Barr is currently polling as an asterisk, meaning that he's about as likely to get one percent of the vote as not.

Second. Bob Barr is a former Republican, and you have to wonder why he would be running knowing all he's going to do is suck votes from McCain.

Finally, the fact that he's supported by Ron Paul gives me the willies. Ron Paul is a Truther, which means he's too prone to conspiracy theory for my tastes. However, thanks for your comment, and I hope to see you back here more often.

Let me ask all of you folks posing the "Socialism issue" a simple question. What is it about Obama's plan that suggests he's a socialist? The fact that he wants to tax the extremely wealthy and cut taxes for the extremely poor? This isn't a redistribution of wealth. There's nothing here that suggests Obama is interested in taking that money from the wealthy and GIVING it to the poor. That's not what he's doing with his tax plan. He's simply putting the burden of our society a little bit more on the shoulder's of those who can most handle it and taking it a little off of those who can't. That burden of our society, as Powell so clearly put it in his Meet The Press appearance includes maintenance of our roads, police forces, fire departments, schools, public infrastructure like bridges, public utilities (sewer, water, gas), our military, etc. Now I don't know about you, but I tend to think that these burdens of our society are incredibly important to us as a nation. And its easy for me to say because I'm not in the 5% of the country who'd be taxed a little more, that I think taxing the rich is a good way to go towards making sure those things are ensured and supported by our government. Hell, whatever taxes I would end up paying under an Obama presidency I would much prefer go towards these VITAL services. Call me a Socialist if you like, but I just think I'm a patriot.

The Problem is obvious.

Obama isn't cutting taxes to the poor, they aren't paying any taxes. He's going to give them money for free. Wealth Redistribution doesn't work, and never has. It's been tried before, and it's never worked to establish prosperity for either a nation, or a people.

The Rich have earned the money they are going to be taxed on. That which they have in savings, they didn't earn this year, and won't be taxed on. So if you increase the taxes on earnings, which is all we can do, you just tell them not to earn any more money. So they stop investing, loaning money for houses etc.

The "tax the rich" schemes never work as intended, not for long. Remember the AMT? It was started to get 155 households which were making full use of the existing tax deductions and paying little or no taxes. Now, it gets so many households that it should be called the Middle Class tax instead.

Obama isn't cutting taxes on the poor, he's promising them free money for a vote. That's bribery, and that's socialism, and it's wrong.
